From Red Wine to Coffee: Quick Tips to Remove Common Stains

Introduction

Laundry mishaps can happen to the best of us - from coffee spills during the morning rush to accidental red wine drips at a dinner party. Fortunately, at Shangri-la Laundry and Ironing, we’ve seen it all, and we've got you covered! Here, we share some of our quick tips for tackling common stains before they settle in.

Coffee Stains

Firstly, don't let the stain dry! Rinse immediately with cold water from the back of the stain. Next, apply liquid laundry detergent to the stained area and gently rub. Rinice and repeat until the stain fades. If the stain persists, consider using a stain remover before washing as per usual.

Red Wine Stains

If you've had a slip of the hand while enjoying a glass of Merlot, don't fret. Dab the stain with a clean cloth to absorb as much wine as possible - remember, never rub! Then, if possible, stretch the stained fabric over a bowl and secure it. Sprinkle a generous amount of salt over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. The salt should help absorb the remaining wine. Afterwards, rinse with boiling water (be careful with delicate fabrics) and wash as usual.

Ink Stains

If you've discovered an ink stain, act quickly! Place a clean cloth beneath the stained area and apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball. Dab the stain with the cotton ball, making sure not to rub it, as this could cause the ink to spread. Rinse with water and apply a small amount of liquid detergent to the stain, gently rubbing it in. Rinse again and wash as you normally would.

Oil or Grease Stains

Oil or grease can be a tricky one, but not impossible to remove. Apply baking soda to the stain and let it absorb the oil for 15-20 minutes. Next, remove the baking soda by gently brushing it off and apply a small amount of dish soap to the stain. Rub it in gently, then rinse with warm water. The item is now ready to be laundered as usual.

Conclusion

Stains are an inevitable part of life, but they don't need to be a permanent part of your wardrobe. By acting fast and using these simple household remedies, you can often prevent them from setting in. However, if you're dealing with a stubborn stain or a precious piece of clothing, you may want to leave it to the professionals.
